Titanic Bath Plugs

This is a pressie my mom brought me a few weeks back. It’s like she doesn’t realize I am not 10 any more ! It’s pretty cool though. I always get kids toys for Xmas and birthdays – normally the are cool – like my R2D2 alarm clock was – before someone murdered it….

Disassembling the aquarium pump

This is my filter from my fish tank – it pumps 100 liters a minute. I decided to clean it today and it was a major task. Taking it to bits piece by piece and cleaning each part. I am actually quite impressed by it’s construction though. I particularly liked the fact the charcoal was packed into little sealed bags – normally that stuff goes everywhere. After cleaning the filter I then had to disengage the kitchen ! On top of that I did a water change in the tank and fixed a problem with the removable catch on my bath! Not to mention I had a bit of a kitchen tidy up. Feeling quite pleased today!

In fact I am really happy today!

Dope

I am at tcentralen (subway) and a guy just bumped into me – I just realized as he passed he had a lit cigarette – he was smoking dope… Shhh Friday evenings in the city – awesome! I’m in a good mood though, I really needed this evening on the town. Carpe diem :)

Hold me now!

First song of the day – “Hold Me Now” which I have to admit isn’t a bad idea!

The last day has been full of visio and PowerPoint – preparing presentations. A friend of mine pointed out the other day that one of my technical PowerPoint presentations broke one of the golden rule sof presenting – which is use short sentences. Truth is I knew I was doing it but when describing complex things sometimes there is no option. Still perhaps I give developers (the audience) too much credit. I may try shortening the slides and add a ton of presenter notes which they can read when I distribute it. Thanks M!

It’s fairly late today I am going into work an hour later than normal. To be fair I’ve worked some really late nights this week and will work fairly late today. My dad calls me a goblin – as in Goblin’ up the overtime I’ve had some crazy nicknames most offensive – such as (in chronological order) –

  • Owen Poem
  • Bimbo
  • Trig
  • Bem
  • The impossible mission guy
  • Ducknapper
  • Wee vindictive grudge bearing bastard
  • Overlord

… The list goes on. Most of those I got at work.

Things just popping into my mind

If you work hard and do your best

You’ll get the sack like all the rest

but if you laze and mess about

youll live to see the job right out

the work is hard, the pay is small

so take your time and sod them all

or on your gravestone neatly laquered

these 3 words: Just bleeding knackered.

…. i read that on the wall of a dentists surgery when i was 9. it stuck in my mind and popped back in there this morning. it was on a photocopied sheet of paper. Remember that? when people would photocopy jokes because the internet hadnt been invented yet?

Other signs of growing old include

  • Remembering what a “record player” is.
  • Remembering life before the internet.
  • Remembering telephones with a dial on them
  • Life before mobile phones (remember phone boxes?)
  • Remembering when a fast modem was 9600baud (as opposed to 2400)
  • Remembering when computers only had 20k of memory and hard drives were 20mb.

…there was life before the internet – its just nobody was able to blog about it. Technology has moved at such a pace. i remember reading an article once that said if the car industry moved as fast as the computer industry we would have cars that could fly to the moon.

That also kind of reminded me of teleportation – the fact that the ability to teleport an object from one place to another exists but is not yet feasable because of data storage. To store the atomic layout of an orange would require you to have a pile of cds which was 1km x 1km x 1km in size. when you start to see the progression we are making in sub atomic computing and the way harddrives are scaling down – that may not be too far down the road. Of course they have other issues to solve – i mean if you store a pattern of an atom thats not enough – when your putting it back together you need to know how fast its vibrating, which direction and replicate all of that, and living objects also have minds, electrical impulses etc…. so they wont solve all those problems any time soon. Then of course you have a ethical dillema – something like that could be soo easily abused or applied to other uses… I could use it to make a 3d real time photocopy of a stack of gems or gold….could destroy the world economy overnight. i could invade france with 100 million copies of myself (not that i could ever get one copy of me to listen). Ok, maybe they arent things i would actually do but the potential is endless. Hehehe, sometimes i wish i was evil, i could have so much fun! (joke)

Smoke

Taking pictures again; this time of fire and smoke! It was actually a bit trickier than I thought it would be. I took about 200 photos there will probably be around 5 I keep… Oh well its too late to do anything about it now :) time too sleep!

Fruit Ninja

On my way home from work; have been playing fruit ninja against Matt; first time I ever played I scored 222 (on my old phone) since then I’ve been getting progressively worse. it was interesting to see that Matt’s x10 doesn’t seem to have a touch screen that is nearly as sensitive as mine.

I’m quite tired tonight. Technically tomorrow I am working from home – although all day will be on the phone.

I clear out my contacts lists on msn and yahoo this morning. Had quite a few people I don’t talk to anymore old friends that I lost touch with on the most part. It feels good to have a tidy up. :)
