I caught the trailer and liked it….
I wasnt too sure what to make of it – halo was an awesome game and theres been rumours of a movie for years, and i didnt want to get my hopes up. The trailer is awesome and I love the music in it. To read from the site:
Halo Helljumper is a short series of films that follows the life of one human ODST from his enlistment in the UNSC before the Human-Covenant War to around the Fall of Reach. Unlike a lot of soldiers, he was lucky enough to survive through 27 years of a losing battle against a hostile alien civilization, known as the Covenant. Through his experiences, we’re going to expose you to an amazing universe full of devastation, grief, affection, and most importantly, hope.
….so I am keeping my fingers crossed, and hoping !

Found a really fascinating albeit slightly geeky blog entry on the creation of the special effects in Tron Legacy, from one of the guys that worked on it. I loved the film, as well as the original. I was delighted to see the original got a bit part in the newer movie and thought it had stunning special effects.

This has been flying around the net for a while now and just thought i would share it – its a size comparison chart for different types of spaceships from different sci-programs – its fun just to see the ships to be honest, you will have to click on the image to see it in full, it won’t fit in my blog entry :)

Enders Game by Orson Scott Card – one of my favorite books ever, and one of only a few that I can read over again. It’s set in the future – the humans are at war with the buggers and it follows the life of Ender Wiggin, a young boy who makes his way to battle school – a place where future commanders are trained. Ender is a small boy and a strategist – he has to improvise, adapt and survive. I love the way this book describes his thought process as he overcomes every challenge placed before him. Its a hard book to put down.
Ive read in a couple of places that there is going to be an Enders Game Movie, and i really don’t know how well that would work – a lot of the charm of the book is in understanding enders internal though and i can’t imagine that translating too well to film – i also heard rumor they were thinking of doing the film with actors in their 20s rather than the original younger ages and again it seems like a bit of a violation – we will just have to see. Im conflicted by the thought of seeing this classic work on the big screen.

These are some of my favorite movie robots of all time (in no particular order)
R2D2 – The friendly astro droid from Star Wars, he is a loyal heroic type. He works well as a comedy duo with C3PO.
Marvin The Paranoid Android – From hitch hikers guide to the galaxy, hes a robot with a GPP (Genuine People Personality). Defined by the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation as “Your Plastic Pal, whos fun to be with”
Maximillian – An evil robot from the 80s film the black hole. he actually turns out to be a cyborg, right at the end of the film you see a pair of human eyes…
Cylons – were cool bad guys from battlestar galactica… they are really evil looking in the latest series.
Jonny 5 – although the robot that comes alive in the 80s isnt my favorite, but i recognise that he was a big thing at the time. The short circuit films were pretty funny, but i hate when they try to make robots too lovable
wall-e – I love this robot, and if you hear him power up – he makes the startup sound of an apple mac :)
Bender – The cartoon robot from Futurama, he has self preservation down to an art form! Interestingly enough during one episode, for a fraction of a second he gets x-rayed – on that xray you see the processor in his brain is a 6502 – the processor behind the bbc micro which i blogged about yesterday. I laughed when i saw that – not many would! lol.
Optimus prime – Ive never been a transformers fan really, but i enjoyed the two movies, and people go nuts over this robot
Sonny – the special effects in “I Robot” were awesome – the design of this robot is awesome, i totally enjoyed the film but cant help think they made him a little too human emotionally speaking
David – thats the name of the robot in AI – This was a fairly awesome film from some respects although it went on a bit. it was like an electronic version of pinnochio.
Data – From star trek was pretty cool. actually a star fleet officer too – wow.
Bishop(Aliens) – was a really cool robot, who kind of saves the day, and even when they cut him in half he is pretty cool.
Terminator – Arnie plays a lifeless emotionally role – he was perfect for it. all the different models of the terminater were cool as well, including the liquid metal ones, and summer glau in the sarah connor chronicles.
ABC Warriors (Judge Dredd) they look bad ass, and are.
Tweetie – From buck rogers hes the short faithful sidekick type.
